What does “checked” mean?
The hosted investigator returns separate quotations, interpretation and unknowns. Before an interpretation appears, each quotation must match text in one of the selected documents. Invalid source IDs or changed words withhold the answer.
This checks wording and references, not truth. A witness can be mistaken. A model can draw a poor conclusion from a correct quote. Open each source and decide for yourself.
Where does the AI run?
The public demo runs the open-weight Gemma 4 model on Cloudflare Workers AI. Your question and chosen fictional records are sent there for inference. We do not add notebook notes to those requests or store conversations in an application database.
The downloadable local edition uses Qwen3 through Ollama. After installation, you can use that edition without a cloud inference service. Both paths keep the archive and generation instructions inspectable.
Is there a right answer?
No official solution is hidden behind the model. Ada’s fate is deliberately unresolved. Your task is to distinguish a reported fact, a plausible theory and a story you want to believe.
Investigate asks an open-weight model to read the record and cite its sources. After dark gives it permission to invent. Neither mode speaks for a real person.
